Permissions

How Astra handles site access, system permissions, and what you can control.

01

Minimal permissions by design

Astra requests only the permissions needed to function as your browser — accessing websites, storing bookmarks and history locally, and managing downloads. It does not ask for access to unrelated system resources.

02

Site permissions you control

When a website requests access to your camera, microphone, location, or notifications, Astra shows a clear prompt. You can allow once, allow always, or block — and change your mind later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions.

03

Extension permissions

If you install browser extensions, each one declares what it can access. Review extension permissions before installing, and remove any extension you no longer trust. Astra surfaces these requests so you are not granting access blindly.

04

Open and auditable

Because Astra is open source, you can inspect exactly what the browser does and what permissions it uses. The full source code is available on GitHub for anyone to review.

To review or change permissions, open Astra Settings → Privacy & Security. For the full source code, visit the Astra GitHub repository .
